Spinoza arranged his philosophical system in a strictly mathematical way, like Euclid's geometry. Nevertheless, his philosophy allows for mutually exclusive interpretation. For example, Hegel regarded him as an absolute idealist, an "objectification of Cartesian philosophy." To French encyclopedists, however, he was a materialist and an atheist. Moreover, the dialectical materialism of Marx and Engels was viewed as a form of Spinozism (e.g. Plekhanov).
The present book is not a philosophical analysis of Spinoza; It is more of a novel about "the noblest and morally superior of the great philosophers" - about Spinoza. He, like Socrates, adhered to the principles in practice, which he followed with strict logic in his philosophy. Thus, considering Spinoza's biographical moments is important to grasp the essence of his philosophy.
